Overview
Writer's Residence was created by Monica Shaw, to make it easy for journalists and writers to create a beautiful online portfolio. It was created after Monica's own experience starting as a freelance writer, where a real lack in simple easy solutions for writers to get their work online in a marketable form was observed. Monica created Writer's Residence back in 2008 to offer journalists and writers like her an easy way to build a professional online writing portfolio.
When Monica approached us, the plan was to upgrade the application and bring it back to life, as it hadn't been maintained in several years. We performed our due diligence and after discussion with Monica, determined that a full rebuild—rather than incremental updates—would be the most efficient path forward. Allowing us to modernise the application and bring it up to date with the latest technologies, improving the user experience, allowing us to add new features and all while working within a similar budget.
We worked with Monica to rebuild the application using Ruby on Rails, the entire rebuild took approximately six months to complete and go-live. The go-live required us to migrate all existing customers and their data to the new platform, which we successfully completed with minimal disruption.
Since the successful launch, many months have passed, and we've developed an excellent relationship with the wonderful team at Writer's Residence. We continue to provide ongoing feature work, bug fixes, and support.
